Default Armor of earth... +armor, or set armor?

I've noticed that in the description for Armor of Earth, it says you gain x armor, where x is dependent on your earth magic level. At max earth skill, it's 62 armor... which seems like a lot for one spell.

So I wondered if the armor 'gained' was a boost to current armor, or a replacement altogether... Armor of Mist has +x armor, instead of a flat x, which makes me think that it does indeed cover up your current AL and replaces it with the new number. From what I've seen in combat, I cannot tell whether or not this is true... but I DO get hit for less... if 2 armor really makes much of a difference...

Anyways, help appreciated. Thank you~

Edit: found a way to test it... reduced a sand drake's aftershock from 105 to 35. So unless 2 armor make 70 points' difference, I think this is just an error in the spell description.

you gain +62 armor, so its a boost to your current armor.

edit: nm you figured it out.

Side note.. I believe enchantments and and other bonuses to defense ignore armor penetration. Ex... E/W with 9 tactics using a shield, armor of earth, and a +5 armor weapon would have 142 armor. The 20% penetration from Judge's Insight should reduce this to 114. Test show that the target still seems to take damage as though they have 130 or so armor. Indicating that armor penetration only affects body armor.
